SCREENPRINT "PHOBIA" ILLUSTRATION
"CAULROPHOBIA", or the fear of clowns. This was our first major forray into screenprinting at Dawson. This is an artform that I have infinite curiousity about as I would love to create massive screenprinted posters for bands and artists down the road. We had to choose a phobia of our choice, either one we suffered from ourselves or one we felt was interesting enough to create a graphic for. There are very few things that genuinely creep me out every single time... apart from bugs. I whole-heartedly feel that my fear of clowns comes from being allowed to watch the movie IT at a sleepover in elementary school. Perhaps this is too common of a fear at this point to stand out in the crowd, but the funny thing is that most of the people who I meet with the same fear of clowns usually has the phobia stem from that film too. I can forever play the scene in my head where the paper boat goes down the sewer and the child puts his hand down to retrieve it and the clown's white face and bloody teeth emerge from the shadows and he bites the kid's arm. I don't really remember if I was scared of clowns before that point, but I'm positive I would now choose a magician instead, any day of the week!
