Semester 5 - Producing a special edition box set about John Pawson. It needed to include a box with a logo for the architectural designer, a booklet about him and his works, and a CD case. John Pawson has spent over thirty years making simple and modest architecture, from private houses, sacred commissions, galleries, museums, hotels, ballet sets, yacht interiors to a bridge. I created a simple logo presenting his name inside a square outline. The booklet and CD case are also square. The box is a cube with long openings on the front. The openings evoke the repetition, symmetry, and forms that are often seen in John Pawson's works. The inside slip imitates a skylight and produces an optical illusion with the perspective, as the square logo can be seen in the square hole. The booklet has spreads with full images of some of the architecture he designed, on top of which is another spread printed on see-through paper. On the smaller spreads, there is information about the architecture complemented with lines and shapes imitating the forms found in the images underneath, thus emphasizing the perspectives, repetitions and simplicity of John Pawson's design.
