African Aardwolves

Mixed media and Adobe Photoshop
This project was in my Illustration class, we were given a letter in the alphabet and had to create three lines worth of run on sentences with almost each word starting with the letter. I had been given the letter “A”. It had taken a few weeks to come up with a phrase, and then illustrate the items. This was the initial stage then we had to illustrate by hand due to copyrights and expressing our objects with emotion and posture. The phrase I had created was “African aardwolves accumulated accordion active ants and assembled them into an aggregate, the ants were awarded akara and amethyst.”

The project was completed by using different tools and mediums. Some of the items were brown paper bags, Mayfair paper, paper towels, napkins, buttons, watercolour pencils, and many other items. The majority was done by hand then scanned and imported into a Photoshop document. These images were then edited for appearance and some colour change was added.

My initial inspiration was to use avocados in Amsterdam but the professor said that it was too unrealistic, so I changed the location to Africa and removed avocados. The animal as the main character was an aardwolf, which is a breed of hyena that eats insects. It is similar to aardvarks but have more wolf features.
